   Buskers.

There is a long and varied history of busking in the city, from an individual violinist who was so into her playing that she almost fell over in her passion through the usual guitarists, brass and woodwind players, “The Bucket Band” (their drum was a plastic bucket and their violinist played Grappelli to rival the man himself). One of the largest (in every sense - including waistlines) was “The St Petersburg Style Brass Quintet”, but they were great if you like light classics.

I am very glad that the city saw fit to allow licensed busking, it adds character and entertainment to the streets - though the drunken Irishman who is convinced he can sing I can do without!

There is a Jazz Festival every year.

   The Historic Docks

which are undergoing a lots of work, not all of it in keeping with the character of the place.    There are two museums in the docks, the British Waterways and Regiments of Gloucester.

The whole area to the south of the docks is in line to be completely rebuilt, if the plans come to fruition it will change the nature of Gloucester greatly.

HISTORICAL PAGEANT

Every year there is some kind of historical festival in Gloucester and often an historical group will visit us, Romans, Vikings and Royalists from the Civil War have been known to return to the city .

Almost every aspect of life in the time is demonstrated: clothing, arms, cooking, music, crafts etc.

There may be Medieval Fairs, archery butts, special exhibitions in the museum and so forth.

It’s a pity that there seems to be no Anglo-Saxon group, this is a period that is sadly under-represented in Gloucester at the moment, even though the English owe their existence to them.
